Before the “Glee” Comic-Con panel begins in earnest, creator Ryan Murphy and EP Dante DiLoreto — along with cast members Naya Rivera, Chris Colfer, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley — sit down with the press to talk about Season 2.

Info about the show:

  • Season 2 will begin shooting Wednesday, July 28.
  • About the Britney Spears tribute episode: “All I can say about that is that we’re doing six Britney songs, and then Brittany (Heather Morris) is doing a Britney song … It’s not airing until September. We’re paying tribute to her in a sort of fun and unexpected way.”
  • Where the show picks up: We’ll find out what they did over the summer, but back at high school, the Gleeks are even bigger rejects this time around since they finished in third place. The theme of the second season is “do you have what it takes to win” and if they can climb up from their embarrassment.
  • There will be a religion-themed episode that will feature “Losing My Religion” and “Papa Can You Hear Me” from “Yentl.”
  • The episodes won’t necessarily be bloated with eight songs like they were at the end of Season 1. Six is probably average, and there’s one that only has four songs.

Wishful thinking:

  • There’s no Comic-Con episode planned, but Murphy says it might work for an Artie episode
  • Most of the rumors of who’s guest starring on the show are just that: Rumors.
  • Justin Timberlake hasn’t been approached to guest star, but if he got on the show, Murphy would want him to play Mr. Schuester’s (Matthew Morrison) younger brother. The hair works!
  • Murphy turned down a chance to do a “Glee” movie for now. He’s not sure what the story would be like. Maybe a 3-D concert movie.
  • Who they’d like for guest stars: Amber – Maxwell or Queen Latifah; Jenna – Hugh Jackman; Kevin – Hayley Williams of Paramore; Heather - Joan Jett or Justin Timberlake; Chris – Julie Andrews (to play his grandma); Naya – Jennifer Lopez

Fun fan stuff:

  • Biggest challenges they’ve overcome working on “Glee” the past year: Amber – confidence in acting; Jenna – Remembering to stutter as Tina and then NOT stuttering as Tina; Kevin – Doing upright choreography in “Safety Dance” since he had gotten used to doing it in a wheelchair; Heather – finding confidence in her singing; Chris – dancing, especially in 10-inch heels; Naya – dancing, especially as a Cheerio
  • Favorite episodes; “Theatricality” -  Naya, Chris, Jenna ; “Dream On” – Heather; “Vitamin D” – Kevin; “Wheels” – Amber; “The Power of Madonna” – Ryan, Dante

LA Times

n the home stretch of the Comic-Con mega-marathon Sunday afternoon, “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy and select cast members — NOT Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison, alas — dropped a few tantalizing glimpses of the upcoming Season 2 for a packed crowd of Gleeks in Ballroom 20.

Maybe the biggest news nugget: The producers are planning a special “Rocky Horror Picture Show”-themed episode at an unspecified date. During the panel, cast member Chris Colfer, who plays the flamboyant Kurt Hummel on the show, said he’d like to sing “Time Warp,” “Rocky Horror’s” signature anthem. It was then that Murphy revealed that he would soon have his chance in a special episode devoted to the cult flick, as the audience cheered wildly.  (Apparently, the tidbit was carefully planted: After the panel was over, the teeming throng exited to the original version of “Time Warp”).

Murphy also said the producers plan to trim the number of musical numbers per episode, from eight to five. “That got to be a little much,” he said of the musical demands.

“People think we’re gonna be bigger and bigger, more crazy,” Murphy said. But “the second season is designed to be a little more intimate. It’s just (responding to) feedback, feedback from the fans.”

Among the possibilities: An episode devoted to cheerleader Brittany (Heather Morris) and a show that follows the diva Mercedes (Amber Riley) to her church.

Of course, this winter “Glee” will be exposed to an even broader audience, as Fox has chosen it as the lead-out programming for the Super Bowl, the most-watched event in the TV business.

“We’re in negotiation to do a really big tribute episode, but we haven’t closed it yet, so I can’t say,” Murphy told the crowd.

“Nothing says Super Bowl to me like ‘Glee,’ ” he joked.

E! News

Ready to get your Glee on? We just got to chat with Ryan Murphy and his always fab Glee cast, and of course hit up the panel session here at Comic-Con to soak up as much Glee scoop as humanly possible. Here’s what you fans absolutely must know…

Unfortunately, Matthew Morrison, Jayma Mays, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron were not at Comic-Con, so there was no talk about those particular love triangles. We know, we can hear your cries of frustration from San Diego. Lucky us, tons of other cast members were there, and we have plenty of other Glee goodies for your perusal! Here are your highlights:

New love triangle! Ryan reveals that Tina will fall out of love with Artie and start falling in love with Mike Chang. Commence gasps of shock and betrayal.

Britney! The Britney Spears episode, called “Britney/Brittany” will be airing in September and will consists of six songs. “We’re doing it in a very funny way. We’re doing it in a fun, hallucinogenic way,” Ryan reveals. Since Matt Morrison publically voiced his objections to a Britney-themed episode, Mr. Schuester will spend the whole episode refusing to do Britney songs. Ha! Awesome, right?

Glee in 3-D! No, seriously! Ryan was asked to do a Glee movie, but he declined. He did say if he were to ever take Glee to the big screen, he’d want to do “a 3-D concert version from Radio City.” Shall we start that campaign now?

More mama drama. Ryan confirmed that Idina Menzel will be back for season two. Holler!

Not bringing sexy back. The rumor of Justin Timberlake appearing on Glee was again squashed by Ryan, but he did think that if he were to come on the show, he’d be perfect as Will’s younger brother.

New couple alert! Kind of. Currently, the writers are toying around with having Brittany and Santana kiss. Naya Rivera was also kind enough to drop their fan-given couple name: “Santittany.” Titillating!

Less music? In the second season, Ryan and Co. will be focusing more on characters and their stories and less on musical numbers. He guesses season two will average about five numbers an episode as opposed to last season’s eight. But rest assured, Ryan did promise that some episodes would get music-crazy.

Geek-splosion! Ryan announced they will be doing a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed episode.

Season opener. The first half of the premiere episode will be catching up with everyone and what they did on their summer vacation. Ryan plans on starting the gang at “ground zero,” as he calls it. “They start the year as bigger losers than they were last year because of their very public third-place finish.”

Praise Jebus! Ryan revealed an upcoming episode theme to be religion. Songs to be covered: “Losing my Religion” and “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” Also, Mercedes will be taking Kurt somewhere special: her church! We already have goosebumps forming in anticipation of that gospel number.

Super Glee. We know that the precious time slot following the Super Bowl will be filled by Glee, but Ryan revealed it will be a tribute episode, though he can’t tell us who they will be honoring.

Friend forever. Amber Riley told the crowd she loves Mercedes’ relationship with Quinn and that she hopes it continues.

Home life. We are going to get glimpses into the home lives of New Directions. Ryan is interested in meeting Artie’s mother, Rachel’s two gay dads, and he also believes that Brittany has a “really smart older sister.”

And that’s the scoop, directly from Comic-Con. Take a moment, let it sink in, and then go nuts in our comments section.

Note: Kristin will be hosting a Glee event at the TV Academy this Tuesday (just two days away!) with the entire cast and producers, so if you have follow-up questions, you know what to do: Hit the comments section or tweet @kristindsantos.

EW PopWatch

The Gleeks were out in full force at San Diego Comic-Con for Sunday afternoon’s panel (moderated by EW’s own Tim Stack) with the cast and crew of Glee. And while many interesting, witty, and adorable things were said about the show and its place in the pop-culture universe, let’s first cut to the chase and get to some tidbits about Season 2, shall we? So, if you are in any way averse to spoilers, shield your eyes!

Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) will fall out of love with Artie (Kevin McHale) and in love with Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.), to which the entire audience responded with the pained whimper of a thousand puppies. “I can fall out of love too,” joked McHale, who proceeded to put his arm around Amber Riley.

– “People think we’re going to get bigger next season, but we’re going in a different direction,” said Murphy, who added that he plans to place a greater emphasis on individual characters (such as Brittany) instead of on massive production numbers. “We’re doing about five music numbers per episode instead of eight.”

– But don’t worry, Gleeks, Season 2 will still feature a few big tribute episodes, including one devoted to Britney Spears. Murphy revealed that Matthew Morrison (who wasn’t present at the panel) once told a reporter that he never, ever wanted to sing Spears on the program. “So the entire episode is Schuester saying, ‘I don’t want to do Britney! I don’t want to do Britney!’” said Murphy. Also, Murphy said that the episode will be very “hallucinogenic.” As if a tribute episode to Spears could be anything but hallucinogenic.

– Chris Colfer expressed his desire for Kurt to sing “The Time Warp” from The Rocky Horror Show. Three seconds later, cue Murphy’s response: “Funnily enough, we are doing a Rocky Horror episode.” To this news, the Gleeks lost their bloody minds.

– Speaking of Kurt, Murphy reiterated that Kurt will find a boyfriend this season. “I wanted Kurt to have the high school experience that I didn’t have,” said Murphy, who is openly gay. “I want him to have a boyfriend and for them to be prom king and king. I think that’s something important to put out into the world.”

– When a fan asked Amber Riley if Mercedes will have any more solos in Season 2, Riley deferred to Murphy, who replied in the affirmative. “We’re working on an episode about religion, and we get to go with Amber’s character to her church,” said Murphy. “And Kurt comes along.” Upon hearing this news, Riley and Colfer looked at one another with befuddled expressions plastered on their faces.

– One Gleek asked Naya Rivera and Heather Morris what they thought about the fan response to Santana and Brittany’s relationship, but the topic quickly turned to whether the two characters will ever kiss. “We’re writing an episode where we’re debating whether they should kiss,” Murphy said. “Heather and I make out all the time,” joked Rivera.

– And both Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth will be appearing in the second season.

A few other, non-spoiler moments from the panel:

– Colfer was asked how he personally differs from the character of Kurt. “Well, I don’t care for 10-inch heels,” replied Colfer. “And I had no idea who Marc Jacobs was when we shot the pilot. I’m really just a huge, huge nerd. I’m very awkward, [whereas] Kurt thinks he’s superior to everyone.”

– When asked about cast member pet peeves, the panel turned against Amber Riley. “Amber videotaped me on a treadmill and then put it on Twitter!” said Colfer. And apparently Riley has a way of sticking her tongue out of her mouth that drives Cory Monteith absolutely bonkers. So, naturally, all of the female cast members now stick their tongues out at Monteith.

– Who was more intimidating to sing for: President Obama or Oprah? “Oprah,” the entire panel immediately replied.

– “This is a show about why the arts matter,” Murphy responded when asked for his greatest joy about working on Glee. Murphy added that’s he’s received letters from high-school teachers about how Glee‘s success has encouraged schools to reconsider cutting their music programs.
