College or university can be a tremendous place, but the shift from your old life to the new one can be a decisive factor that can trigger mental health issues. Studies show that almost 30% of students experience a type of mental health problem.  Unfortunately, some of them don’t treat the disease and this leads them to commit tragic actions such as suicide. Anxiety

This problem is quite hard to detect because it can easily be mistaken for normal stress. Each person feels differently and, therefore, it is quite impossible to figure out if someone suffers from anxiety or he just worries too much. This problem is characterized by unexpected but also regular panic attacks. A known symptom of this mental disease is the feel of constant fear. Although this problem can be solved with medication, most of the students don’t seek medical help because they are in denial or because they just don’t know that they are actually sick.

Anorexia

This eating disorder is known to be the third most common disease among young people. It is mentally triggered by the people who want to lose weight because they see themselves as being fat. A lot of studies show that female students are the main targets of this disease because of their desire to be thin. If not treated, anorexia can be fatal.

Bulimia

The complete opposite of the previous health problem, bulimia is an eating disorder characterized by excessive eating. It is caused by the wrong image that students have in their heads about their own body. A bulimic person can eat until he vomits. This disorder can lead to obesity and also to heart attacks.

Self-injury

Cutting or burning yourself in different places on your body that can be hidden is a response to stress and pressure. Students that do this don’t necessarily want to commit suicide, but they see this technique as a stress relief.

Insomnia

Last but not least, insomnia is a mental health problem that students face on a daily basis. The difficulty of falling asleep or staying asleep is a disorder caused by huge amounts of stress and academic fears.

To conclude, university or college life can be amazing, but when problems such as excessive fear or stress appear, you must seek medical help or at least talk about it with your friends and family. There’s no need to worry, you are not alone.
